We can’t just choose to be conscious of our surroundings. We can’t just decide to be mindful, but we can choose to be focused.

The ability to consciously choose how we feel about our surroundings is called non-attentional awareness. This type of awareness is often referred to as “mindfulness,” but I don’t think that’s quite right. It’s a more general term for the ability to notice your body, your environment, and the world around you in a deeper way. We are aware of our surroundings, but we can choose to be “mindful” of that awareness.

One way to get more mindfulness is by choosing to let go of the past. To begin with, I’m not sure there is such a thing as mindfulness. I think it is more what I call “non-attentional awareness”. You can’t be fully aware of the things in your own life. You have to remember them consciously and choose to let them go when you are ready to move forward with your life.

When you choose to let go of your past, you let go of the distractions that you have been trying to keep in order to make your life more efficient. You let go of the things in your life that you don’t like. You can choose to let go of things that you don’t want to let go of. It is a choice. And it is a choice that is not easy to make, but is not impossible either.

It’s true that we have to make a conscious choice to let go of the things in our world that we do not like. We have to choose to let go of our past too.
